Then, even after that, ye turned away, and if it had not been for the grace of Allah and His mercy ye had been among the losersBut after this ye turned back, and but for God's grace and mercy toward you, ye had surely been of the lostThen did ye turn aside after this, and were it not for God's grace towards you and His mercy, ye would have been of those who lose- مَّا2:105:1

Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture nor the idolaters love that there should be sent down unto you any good thing from your Lord. But Allah chooseth for His mercy whom He will, and Allah is of Infinite BountyThe unbelievers among the people of the Book, and among the idolaters, desire not that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord: but God will shew His special mercy to whom He will, for He is of great bountyThey who misbelieve, whether of those who have the Book or of the idolaters, would fain that no good were sent down to you from your Lord; but God specially favours with His mercy whom He will, for God is Lord of mighty graceSuch are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guidedOn them shall be blessings from their Lord, and mercy: and these! - they are the rightly guidedThese, on them are blessings from their Lord and mercy, and they it is who are guided- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا2:178:1

O ye who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the murdered; the freeman for the freeman, and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. And for him who is forgiven somewhat by his (injured) brother, prosecution according to usage and payment unto him in kindness. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. He who transgresseth after this will have a painful doomO believers! retaliation for bloodshedding is prescribed to you: the free man for the free, and the slave for the slave, and the woman for the woman: but he to whom his brother shall make any remission, is to be dealt with equitably; and to him should he pay a fine with liberality. This is a relaxation from your Lord and a mercy. For him who after his shall transgress, a sore punishmentO ye who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for you for the slain: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the female for the female; yet he who is pardoned at all by his brother, must be prosecuted in reason, and made to pay with kindness. That is an alleviation from your Lord, and a mercy; and he who transgresses after that for him is grievous woe- أُحِلَّ2:187:1

It is made lawful for you to go in unto your wives on the night of the fast. They are raiment for you and ye are raiment for them. Allah is Aware that ye were deceiving yourselves in this respect and He hath turned in mercy toward you and relieved you. So hold intercourse with them and seek that which Allah hath ordained for you, and eat and drink until the white thread becometh distinct to you from the black thread of the dawn. Then strictly observe the fast till nightfall and touch them not, but be at your devotions in the mosques. These are the limits imposed by Allah, so approach them not. Thus Allah expoundeth His revelation to mankind that they may ward off (evil)Lo! those who believe, and those who emigrate (to escape the persecution) and strive in the way of Allah, these have hope of Allah's mercy. Allah is Forgiving, MercifulBut they who believe, and who fly their country, and fight in the cause of God may hope for God's mercy: and God is Gracious, MercifulVerily, those who believe, and those who flee, and those who wage war in God's way; these may hope for God's mercy, for God is forgiving and merciful- ءَامَنَ2:285:1

Allah tasketh not a soul beyond its scope. For it (is only) that which it hath earned, and against it (only) that which it hath deserved. Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget, or miss the mark! Our Lord! Lay not on us such a burden as thou didst lay on those before us! Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear! Pardon us, absolve us and have mercy on us, Thou, our Protector, and give us victory over the disbelieving folkGod will not require of the soul save its capacity. It shall have what it has earned, and it shall owe what has been earned from it. Lord, catch us not up, if we forget or make mistake; Lord, load us not with a burden, as Thou hast loaded those who were before us. Lord, make us not to carry what we have not strength for, but forgive us, and pardon us, and have mercy on us. Thou art our Sovereign, then help us against the people who do not believeOur Lord! Cause not our hearts to stray after Thou hast guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Thy Presence. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the BestowerO our Lord! suffer not our hearts to go astray after that thou hast once guided us, and give us mercy from before thee; for verily thou art He who givethO Lord! pervert not our hearts again when Thou hast guided them, and grant us mercy from Thee, for Thou art He who grantsHe selecteth for His mercy whom He will. Allah is of Infinite BountyHe will vouchsafe His mercy to whom He will, for God is of great bounteousnessHe specially favours with his mercy whom he pleases, for God is Lord of mighty graceAnd as for those whose faces have been whitened, in the mercy of Allah they dwell for everAnd as to those whose faces shall have become white, they shall be within the mercy of God: therein shall they abide for everBut as for those whose faces are whitened, they are in God's mercy, and they shall dwell therein for ayeAnd obey Allah and the messenger, that ye may find mercyand obey God and the apostle, that ye may find mercyand obey God and His Apostle, perchance ye may get mercyAnd what though ye be slain in Allah's way or die therein? Surely pardon from Allah and mercy are better than all that they amassAnd if ye shall be slain or die on the path of God, then pardon from God and mercy is better than all your amassingsAnd if, indeed, ye be killed in God's way or die, surely forgiveness from God and mercy is better than what ye gather- فَبِمَا3:159:1

It was by the mercy of Allah that thou wast lenient with them (O Muhammad), for if thou hadst been stern and fierce of heart they would have dispersed from round about thee. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult with them upon the conduct of affairs. And when thou art resolved, then put thy trust in Allah. Lo! Allah loveth those who put their trust (in Him)Of the mercy of God thou hast spoken to them in gentle terms. Hadst thou been severe and harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from thee. Therefore, forgive and ask for pardon for them, and consult them in the affair of war, and when thou art resolved, then put thou thy trust in God, for God loveth those who trust in HimIt was by a sort of mercy from God thou didst deal gently with them, for hadst thou been rough and rude of heart they had dispersed from around thee. But pardon them, and ask forgiveness for them, and take counsel with them in the affair. As for what thou hast resolved, rely upon God; verily, God loves those who do relyAllah would explain to you and guide you by the examples of those who were before you, and would turn to you in mercy. Allah is Knower, WiseAnd Allah would turn to you in mercy; but those who follow vain desires would have you go tremendously astrayGod desireth to make this known to you, and to guide you into the ways of those who have been before you, and to turn Him unto you in mercy. But for the grace of Allah upon thee (Muhammad), and His mercy, a party of them had resolved to mislead thee, but they will mislead only themselves and they will hurt thee not at all. Allah revealeth unto thee the Scripture and wisdom, and teacheth thee that which thou knewest not. The grace of Allah toward thee hath been infiniteBut for the grace and mercy of God upon thee, a party among them had resolved to mislead thee, but they shall only mislead themselves; nor in aught shall they harm thee. God hath caused the Book and the wisdom to descend upon thee: and what thou knowest not He hath caused thee to know: and the grace of God toward thee hath been greatWere it not for God's grace upon thee, and His mercy, a party of them would have tried to lead thee astray; but they only lead themselves astray; they shall not hurt you in aught: for God hath sent down upon thee the Book and the wisdom, and taught thee what thou didst not know, for God's grace was mighty on theeAs for those who believe in Allah, and hold fast unto Him, them He will cause to enter into His mercy and grace, and will guide them unto Him by a straight roadAs to those who believe in God and lay fast hold on Him, these will He cause to enter into his mercy and grace, and along the straight way unto Himself will He guide themAs for those who believe in God, and take tight hold of Him, He will make them enter into mercy from Him and grace; and He will guide them to Himself by a right wayThey thought no harm would come of it, so they were wilfully blind and deaf. And afterward Allah turned (in mercy) toward them. Now (even after that) are many of them wilfully blind and deaf. Allah is Seer of what they do- قُل6:12:1

They who are the authors of their own ruin, are they who will not believeSay, 'Whose is what is in the heavens and the earth?' Say, 'God's, who has imposed mercy on himself.' He will surely gather you together for the resurrection day. There is no doubt in that, but those who waste their souls will not believeHe from whom (such retribution) is averted on that day, (Allah) hath in truth had mercy on him. That will be the signal triumphFrom whomsoever it shall be averted on that day, He will have had mercy on him: and this will be the manifest blissWhomsoever it is averted from on that day, God will have had mercy on; and that is obvious happiness- وَإِذَا6:54:1

Your Lord hath laid down for himself a law of mercy; so that if any one of you commit a fault through ignorance, and afterwards turn and amend, He surely will be Gracious, MercifulAnd when those who believe in our signs come to thee, say, 'Peace be on you! Or lest ye should say: If the Scripture had been revealed unto us, we surely had been better guided than are they. Now hath there come unto you a clear proof from your Lord, a guidance and mercy; and who doeth greater wrong than he who denieth the revelations of Allah, and turneth away from them? We award unto those who turn away from Our revelations an evil doom because of their aversionOr lest ye should say, "If a book had been sent down to us, we had surely followed the guidance better than they." Allah hath turned in mercy to the Prophet, and to the Muhajirin and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of hardship. After the hearts of a party of them had almost swerved aside, then turned He unto them in mercy. Lo! He is Full of Pity, Merciful for them- وَعَلَى9:118:1

And to the three also (did He turn in mercy) who were left behind, when the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for them, and their own souls were straitened for them till they bethought them that there is no refuge from Allah save toward Him. Then turned He unto them in mercy that they (too) might turn (repentant unto Him). Lo! Allah! He is the Relenting, the MercifulShowing the first 50 of 215 verses.

Divergence method. For each verse, every edition’s text is lowercased, stripped of punctuation and stopwords, and light-stemmed to a set of significant word-stems. We take the minimum pairwise Jaccard similarity across editions; a verse is flagged materially divergent when that minimum falls below 0.40 (editions share under ~40% of significant vocabulary). This is a lexical measure — it captures both substantive and stylistic difference — so the per-pair score is always shown. With these early editions most verses diverge lexically; the measure sharpens as more, more-modern editions are added. The editions, their licences and the full method are recorded in the dataset’s translations report.
