Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 42:8 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. Had God willed, He could have made them one community, but He admits into His mercy whomever He wills. As for the wrongdoers, they will have no protector and no saviorHad Allah willed, He could have made them one community, but Allah bringeth whom He will into His mercy. And the wrong-doers have no friend nor helperHad God so pleased, He had made them one people and of one creed: but He bringeth whom He will within His mercy; and as for the doers of evil, no patron, no helper shall there be for themBut had God pleased He would have made them one nation; but He makes whom He will enter into His mercy; and the unjust have neither patron nor helpif he willed Allah he made them community a single one but he admits who he wills in his mercy and the wrongdoers what for them from ally and not helperGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
