Quranic text · Tanzil Uthmani 1.1How translators rendered it
Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 39:47 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →
If those who did wrong owned everything on earth, and the like of it with it, they would redeem themselves with it from the terrible suffering on the Day of Resurrection. But there will appear to them from God what they never anticipatedAnd though those who do wrong possess all that is in the earth, and therewith as much again, they verily will seek to ransom themselves therewith on the Day of Resurrection from the awful doom; and there will appear unto them, from their Lord, that wherewith they never reckonedIf the wicked possessed all that is in the earth and as much again therewith, verily they would ransom themselves with it from the pain of the punishment on the day of the resurrection; and there shall appear to them, from God, things they had never reckoned onAnd had those who do wrong all that is in the earth, and the like thereof with it, they would ransom themselves therewith from the evil of the torment on the resurrection day! but there shall appear to them from God that which they had not reckoned onif that for those who they wronged what in the earth all together and his like together with him they ransomed in it from evil of the punishment Day of the standing and he becomed apparent for them from Allah what not they be they reckon onGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
