Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 21:40 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →
In fact, it will come upon them suddenly, and bewilder them. They will not be able to repel it, and they will not be reprievedNay, but it will come upon them unawares so that it will stupefy them, and they will be unable to repel it, neither will they be reprievedBut it shall come on them suddenly and shall confound them; and they shall not be able to put it back, neither shall they be respitedNay, it shall come on them suddenly, and shall dumbfounder them, and they shall not be able to repel it, nor shall they be respitedrather he comes to them suddenly so he is confounded them so not they be able her taking back and not they are granted respiteGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
