Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 17:76 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →
They almost provoked you, to expel you from the land. In that case, they would not have lasted after you, except brieflyAnd they indeed wished to scare thee from the land that they might drive thee forth from thence, and then they would have stayed (there) but a little after theeAnd truly they had almost caused thee to quit the land, in order wholly to drive thee forth from it: but then, themselves should have tarried but a little after theeAnd they well-nigh enticed thee away from the land, to turn thee out therefrom; but then - they should not have tarried after thee except a littleand if almost they incite from the earth they bring out from it and then not they remain your opposite sides except fewGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
