Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 16:118 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →
For those who are Jews, We have prohibited what We related to you before. We did not wrong them, but they used to wrong their own selvesAnd unto those who are Jews We have forbidden that which We have already related unto thee. And We wronged them not, but they were wont to wrong themselvesTo the Jews we have forbidden that of which we before told thee; we injured them not, but they injured themselvesFor those who are Jews we have forbidden what we have narrated to thee before; we did not wrong them, but it was themselves they wrongedand upon those whom they becomed Jewish We forbade what We recounted upon you from before and not We wronged but they were their selfs they wrongGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
