Quranic text · Tanzil Uthmani 1.1How translators rendered it
Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 12:96 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →
Then, when the bearer of good news arrived, he laid it over his face, and he regained his sight. He said, “Did I not say to you that I know from God what you do not know?”Then, when the bearer of glad tidings came, he laid it on his face and he became a seer once more. He said: Said I not unto you that I know from Allah that which ye know notAnd when the bearer of good tidings came, he cast it on his face, and Jacob's eyesight returned." Then he said, "Did I not tell you that I knew from God what ye knew notAnd when the herald of glad tidings came he threw it on his face, and he was restored to sight. Said he, 'Did I not tell you that I know from God that of which ye know notso when that he came the bearer of good news he cast upon his face he turned back from all-seeing he said did not I say for you indeed I know from Allah what not you knowGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
