Those who are stingy, and induce people to be stingy. Whoever turns away—God is the Independent, the PraiseworthyWho hoard and who enjoin upon the people avarice. And whosoever turneth away, still Allah is the Absolute, the Owner of PraiseWho are covetous themselves and incite others to covetousness. But whose turneth away from almsgiving - Ah! God is the Rich, the Praiseworthywho are niggardly and bid men be niggardly: but whoso turns his back, verily, God is rich, praiseworthythose whom they be miserly and they command the people by the miserliness and whoever he turns away so indeed Allah He the free of need the praiseworthyGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
