Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 4:37 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →
Those who are stingy, and exhort people to stinginess, and conceal what God has given them from His bounty. We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful punishmentWho hoard their wealth and enjoin avarice on others, and hide that which Allah hath bestowed upon them of His bounty. For disbelievers We prepare a shameful doomWho are niggardly themselves, and bid others be niggards, and hide away what God of his bounty hath given them. We have made ready a shameful chastisement for the unbelieverswho are miserly and bid men be miserly too, and who hide what God has given them of His grace;- but we have prepared for the misbelievers shameful woethose whom they be miserly and they command the people by the miserliness and they conceal what he gave them Allah from his bounty We made ready for the one who rejects punishment humiliatingGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
