Quranic text · Tanzil Uthmani 1.1How translators rendered it
Translation · 5 editionsThese translations render verse 3:47 — the whole verse this word appears in — not this word alone. The correspondence is verse-level: no word-level alignment of translations exists for these editions, so we do not claim which English word renders this Arabic word. Compare the editions →

He said, "Thus: God will create what He will; When He decreeth a thing, He only saith, 'Be,' and it isShe said, 'Lord! how can I have a son, when man has not yet touched me?' He said, 'Thus God creates what He pleaseth. When He decrees a matter He only says BE and it ishe said my Sustainer in what way he is for me child not he touches me human being he said thus Allah he creates what he wills when he decreed matter then only he says for him be so he isGenerated from a table of word-by-word decisions, not written as prose. Arabic word order is preserved, so it reads stiffly and is not a substitute for a translation written by a person. Every verse is rendered, but the whole remains under review: words marked as judgement rest on weaker evidence than the rest and are flagged in place. No tafsir, hadith or existing translation was consulted.
